Living Labyrinth
placemaking

Set under a canopy of oak  trees in Brookwood Park, Lafayette Ca, this 7 circuit walking Labyrinth is a coveted community gathering place, where annual memorials are held and individuals convene for meditation and reflection.

Serving as both architect and artist, Lara stewarded this special project from initial schematic design, to community outreach and approvals, through to the details of site work and signage. Lara was then engaged to both design and build the central mosaic medallion.

Inspired by the four elements of earth, air, fire and water, the tumbled glass medallion sparkles and reflects dappled light providing a contrasting focal point to the Labyrinth’s natural pallet.

The Living Labyrinth is made possible by The Madrone Foundation, Pleasant Hill Recreation and Parks District , Professional Healthcare at Home Hospice and Chris Donton, Landscape Contractor.
